We had a fantastic time delivering leadership workshops for The HALO Trust in Salisbury over the past few weeks. HALO are a great organisation who do much to make the world a safer place – de-mining in Cambodia, Afghanistan, Angola, Somalia, Syria, and many more countries. Sheridan Worldwide coaches Catherine de la Poer and Lee Mears worked with HALO’s senior leaders from across the globe, leading a programme of coaching skills to nurture high performing teams, guidance for leading with emotional awareness, and setting out a vision for HALO organisational culture.
The attendees were pleased to see (and in many cases meet!) each other in person after months dispersed around the globe. Over the three days, they held inspiring conversations on strategy, communication, delegation, building trust, giving and receiving feedback, managing and leading virtually – and delved deep into their individual personalities and skillsets through EQI 2.0 reports. Everyone came away with a set of Emotional Culture Deck cards to use with their teams, a copy of Daniel Coyle’s The Culture Code book, new tools and a refreshed mindset to take forward.
An extra treat was hearing Caroline speak on her area of expertise, conflict mediation. And poker player extraordinaire Caspar Berry joined for a day. Caspar uses poker as a metaphor to talk about the mathematics of probability and risk, using his unique experiences to deliver challenging messages about decision-making and maximising returns in an increasingly uncertain world. What resonated with me from Caspar’s talk is that:
- The future isn’t out there waiting to be predicted
- A decision can be objectively good or bad regardless of its outcome. The payoff of making consistently good decisions may only realised in the long term, and we need to be prepared to accept failure to keep taking positive risks, or as one of the group put it – ‘take more swings!’
This will not be the last Sheridan Worldwide sees of Caspar – friends and clients, watch this space for the chance to meet him next year!
We are hugely thankful to the HALO Trust for allowing us to partner on these projects and deliver such a positive and ambitious experience to all involved.
